What is the difference between SMS Surgical gowns and Wood Pulp Surgical gowns?

In the field of medical protection, SMS surgical gowns and wood pulp surgical gowns are two common products. They have distinct characteristics in terms of material, performance and application scenarios.

The wood pulp surgical gown uses natural wood pulp fibers as the main raw material and is reinforced through the water-jetting process. It has a soft texture, with a touch similar to traditional fabrics. It has excellent breathability, but is relatively weak in fluid barrier performance because it lacks a meltblown layer.

In terms of performance, both have their own advantages. The SMS surgical gown has outstanding barrier properties, effectively preventing the penetration of bacteria and liquids, making it suitable for scenarios with high protection requirements. However, its breathability is relatively average. The wood pulp surgical gown, with its excellent moisture absorption and soft texture, offers better wearing comfort. However, its barrier ability is slightly inferior to that of the SMS surgical gown.

From the cost and application perspective, SMS surgical gowns are moderately priced and suitable for surgeries with high requirements for isolation, such as surgical operations and infection control procedures, which involve high-risk operations. Wood pulp surgical gowns are relatively more costly and are mainly intended for low-risk or non-invasive procedures, such as outpatient operations and general nursing. They are especially suitable when comfort is prioritized and lower barrier requirements are acceptable.
